THE COLLECTION PORSCHE LE MANS VIEWING PARTY + SALES EVENT

When it comes to the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans race, the question on everyone’s mind is, “Who is going to be this year’s winner?” While Audi has taken the trophy in most recent years, Porsche came back with several changes and was the ultimate WINNER of this year’s incredible race.

To celebrate the race, Porsche clients and Porsche Club Gold Coast members flowed into THE COLLECTION on Saturday, June 13th to watch the Porsche racing team compete for and WIN the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Guests enjoyed Shorty’s catering, racing inspired décor and a bevy of eye candy including the amazing Porsche Momo race car, a 918 Spyder and an exact replica of the winning racecar – the 919 Hybrid.

As 150+ Porsche enthusiasts arrived at THE COLLECTION, guests were able to enjoy a mini concours on Aurora Street where Porsche loyalists displayed their one-of-a-kind Porsches. Making the event even more interactive, guests enjoyed a dent removal demonstration, an accessories display and classic car restoration station.

The Porsche racing team sent a white, a black and a red Porsche 919 Hybrid onto the circuit. The reworked drive system on this Le Mans Prototype 919 Hybrid racecar was more powerful and more efficient than ever before. How so? The 919 is equipped with a 2-litre V4 turbocharged petrol engine with an output of more than 500 hp, which powers the rear axle, and an electric motor with over 400 hp that drives the front wheels and gets its electricity from two energy-recovery systems.

Along with this, a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery temporarily stores converted braking energy from the front axle as well as converted exhaust-gas energy. Combined with a lower weight and improved agility, the Hybrid was a force to be reckoned with on the track and it sure did not disappoint.

In anticipation of Le Mans and the upcoming win, Porsche started a 919 Hybrid 1:1 model car online auction right here: http://919hybridauction.com/en/. With a starting bid of $7,370, eventually the 919 Hybrid sold on June 14th for $106,100. All proceeds from the auction benefitted SportsCares Foundation and Movement, a charity organization in Singapore. Using sport as a force for social good, SportsCares aims to improve the lives of underprivileged children, youth-at-risk, needy seniors, people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities and the disadvantaged.

What an amazing day it was and an incredible win for Porsche! I personally cannot wait until next year to see if Porsche can take home the trophy for the 18th time!
