Fall Fashion for Men

Last week was the beginning of a new season: Fall. For the next couple of months, styles will change and it is never too early to start investing in this season’s key trends.

Designer Miuccia Prada said it best with this quote: “What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language.”

My good friend and our brand ambassador, Dwyane Wade, is an icon on and off the basketball court. Known for his style and taste, Dwyane has started his own line for “The Tie Bar,” which features his distinct designs of ties, bowties, pocket squares, cufflinks and tie bars. Also, our neighbors at Neiman Marcus Coral Gables recently shared Fall’s top looks and we’re giving you a peek into September’s stellar lineup. Whether it’s the new IT color or experimentation with plaid prints, this is a season to be excited for. Here is my short list of the top trends of 2014:

ATHLETIC INSPIRED: It’s the season of sports! Asbaseball jackets come back into fashion and sneakers are no longer confined to the gym, it’s safe to say an athletic mood is taking over. Backpacks are also de rigueur as are Nike + fuel bands or FitBits worn around the wrist.

GREENS: It’s good to be green (literally). Choose from dark hunter green, mossy green and emerald colors. “Give the green light to all shades of green,” Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing says.

GO WEST: Think Western flair. Imagine pieces you would spot on the streets of Aspen — cowboy boots, leather moccasins and graphic sweaters. “Designers take you on a global trek without ever having to leave your closet,” Downing says. Although Miami may not be the ideal location for sweaters and boots, take these items on your Fall vacation. Who knows, you may just become the latest trend-setter.

PLAIDS AND CHECKS: For men, in particular, plaid (a tartan print) and checks (resembling the crossing lines of graph paper) are the go-to patterns this season.

SNEAKERS: The sneaker trend shows no signs of slowing down. Athletic-inspired shoes boasting mixed materials — such as spikes, exotic skins and gold accents — will grace the feet of both men and women well into winter.

GRAY MATTERS: From men’s blazers to leather moto jackets to suede boots, you’ll find them swathed in gray hues. “From charcoal to metallic silver, gray is the new neutral and base of the season,” Downing says.

For instant inspiration, you can peruse Neiman Marcus’ men’s fall lookbook — which can be best summed up as prints, polished leather and unexpected sport influences — take a look at everyone’s favorite trends here:
