Who will win this year’s Sony Open Tennis tournament? Will it be Serena, Maria, Roger, Rafa or Novak? Either way, these next two weeks you can find me soaking in the sights of Key Biscayne’s celebrated tennis tournament featuring the greats.
Taking place March 17 to 30, 2014, the Sony Open Tennis tournament is one of the most relevant tennis events, compliments of its rich history dating back to the 1960s. The event features the world’s top ATP men’s and WTA women’s tennis players right here in Miami at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park.
Over the years, it’s become South Florida’s hottest ticket, seeing as tennis aces such as Serena and Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova, Anna Kournikova, Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin del Potro and more have duked it out on the courts to the delight of tennis buffs everywhere.
And THE COLLECTION takes part in the fun year after year. How so? As sponsors for the past three seasons, we provide a plethora of players with luxury vehicles during their stay here in Miami. Serena was a fan of her Ferrari California, Andy Murray cruised around town in a Porsche Panamera and Novak zipped around the city in a Jaguar XJ.
THE COLLECTION also has an on-site showroom located by Gate A. Stop by to check out the latest and greatest in luxury automobiles. Our staff is ready to answer any and all questions you may have.
On-site are a McLaren 12C Spider, Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, Maserati Ghibli, Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe, Audi A3 and a Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid.
The Audi A3, whose official launch date is April 3, is the all-new category-defining sedan from Audi. It features uncompromising craftsmanship with a starting price of $29,000, and several Audi and industry firsts, like available 4G LTE Wi-Fi® hotspot connection, MMI® touch, and more. With standard leather seating surfaces and a large panoramic sunroof, the A3 sheds light on how a compact luxury vehicle can go big.
Available this summer, the Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe is the newest offering from Jaguar. With soaring performance, the F-TYPE R Coupe offers outstanding levels of dynamic capability and control. Its 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine produces 550 horsepower, accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 4.0 seconds. The F-TYPE R features an Electronic Active Differential, Jaguar Super Performance Braking System, and Sport Suspension with Adaptive Dynamics.
Make sure to also check out the all-new Porsche 911 Targa and Macan located within the village entrance. Both of these beauties are making their first appearance ever in South Florida!
Porsche unveiled the new 911 Targa at the North American International Auto Show with an updated shape that definitely puts a twist on the classic 911 silhouette. It is not quite a convertible, and not quite a coupe. It features a fixed rear wraparound glass window and a retractable roof panel to open up the cabin, making it the perfect year-round car in the Sunshine State! The Targa is 21st century retro, a beautiful throwback to the 1967 original that opens and closes in a wonderful mechanical execution that took three years to engineer and occurs at the press of a button in an astonishing 19 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Porsche Macan launches May 17 and is certainly not your everyday compact SUV. The Macan is lower, 6.5 inches shorter, and up to 500 pounds lighter than a Cayenne GTS. With the Macan, which comes in two models, Porsche has unmistakably created the first sports car in the fast-growing SUV segment. The Macan S, powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 340 hp, can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds. The Macan Turbo’s 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 produces 400 hp and makes the car sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Five doors, five seats and yet intimate with the road; boasting plenty of space for hobbies, leisure and sport. Compact, concentrated and intensive, but still powerful.
“The Macan possesses all the qualities that have made compact SUVs so popular around the world: a practical, flexible interior; the visibility and sense of security that comes with extra ride height; and the ability to traverse rough roads with ease,” said Matthias Mueller, President of Executive Board of Porsche AG. “The Macan’s agility, grip and steering precision are easily the best in class – and the 400-horsepower Macan Turbo is certainly the most powerful in its segment,” he added.
The Sony Open is also the place to see and be seen. One minute, you may find yourself sitting next to Rob Lowe and the next you may be chatting up Bridget Moynahan.
Other celebrities in attendance at past games include international recording artists Calvin Harris, Flo Rida and Austin Mahone, golfer Greg Norman, race car drivers Dario Franchitti and Tony Kanaan, Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill and offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie just to name a few.
The Sony Open is not just a tennis tournament, it’s a lifestyle event. The Open offers a range of activities for the entire family. From the die-hard tennis fan to the casual type, the Sony Open features food by world-class chefs, luxurious shopping options, live music, beautiful weather and a host of other activities. Talk about a glam slam!
