KEN GORIN ON THE TOP CORAL GABLES EATS

With the openings of Morimoto South Beach, Il Mulino, J&G Grill, Estiatorio Milos, Lure, Seagrape, Cipriani and more — there is no denying Miami is experiencing a serious foodie moment. As for me, personally, there is no greater way to spend the evening than with friends over a delicious meal and fine wine. And I’m quite certain I’m not alone in this guilty pleasure.

Seeing as THE COLLECTION is located in the heart of historic Coral Gables, many of my favorite restaurants are located in the area. So without further ado, here is my must-dine guide when in the gorgeous Gables neighborhood.

Caffe Abracci

This Italian restaurant is arguably Coral Gables’ crown jewel. It also happens to be the proud winner of Open Table’s 2014 Diner’s Choice Award for the second year in the row. True to his native Venice, owner Nino Pernetti continues his time-honored tradition of bringing the enjoyment of quintessential classic Italian dishes to the palates of discerning patrons. Extraordinary accolades, such as the coveted Dirona and Mobil Awards, are a testimony to the dedication and commitment to perfection made at this exceptional restaurant. The must-have dish here? The veal Milanese with fresh-cut French fries. Trust me. Caffe Abracci, 318 Aragon Avenue; (305) 441-0700.

Bugatti

On the first and second Wednesday of every month, those-in-the-know beeline toward to Bugatti for the homemade lasagna. Serving Coral Gables for over 25 years, this restaurant has lived up to its name as “the art of pasta.” Originally established as a retail shop for fresh-made pasta in 1985, Bugatti served up only two dishes a day. But the people wanted more, naturally! Since then, the shop transitioned into a full-on restaurant replete with a menu boasting the best in pasta. Mangia! Bugatti, 2504 Ponce de Leon Boulevard; (305) 441-2545.

Gables Juice Bar & Power Protein Pizza

For healthy eats, this is where the locals frequent. This no-frills restaurant is home to clean bites such as organic juices, homemade soups, hearty salads, whole-wheat wraps and power pizzas.  The secret here? Gables Juice Bar’s delicious sauces such as honey ginger, cilantro and dill. The added bonus? They deliver. Gables Juice Bar & Power Protein Pizza, 230 Almeria Avenue; (305) 529-9090.

Hillstone

For the best barbeque ribs or hamburger in the Gables vicinity, Hillstone is the spot.  The sushi is spectacular, too. And the spinach and artichoke dip is bar none. While diners should always anticipate a lengthy wait when dining here, it’s nice to grab a cocktail at the bar and people watch at this locally loved spot. Hillstone, 201 Miracle Mile; (305) 529-0141.

Pascal’s On Ponce Restaurant

Ooh la la…This classic Gables favorite whips up delicious contemporary French fare. The 55-seat, upscale, yet unpretentious French restaurant in Coral Gables has wowed critics and diners for years by virtue of its delicious fare, impeccable service and charming atmosphere. The restaurant’s success is owned by critically acclaimed chef/owner Pascal Oudin who insists on creating an elegant French dining experience without the fussiness and reminiscent of a classic Parisian bistro. Also of note here? The fine selection of wines. Pascal’s On Ponce Restaurant, 2611 Ponce de Leon Blvd., (305) 444-2024
