As a Miami native and self-professed foodie, visitors and locals alike often ask me, “Where should I eat right now?” Sure, frequent South Florida’s staples and essentials such as Joe’s Stone Crab, Prime 112, Cipriani, Mandolin Aegean Bistro, Il Gabbiano, Zuma, Caffe Abbracci and more — but let’s take a gander at the IT places of the moment…
Bazaar Mar by José Andrés
If you haven’t checked out the new, stunning SLS Brickell, well, here’s a valid reason to do so ASAP. Once you’re done ooh-ing and aah-ing over the gorgeous blue and white interiors of Bazaar Mar, sink your teeth into the Maine lobster croquetas and bite-sized po’ boys topped with caviar and be sure to thank me later. The tapas-style menu here is brimming with seafood selections and is perfect for nibbling on several innovative dishes with a large group. Bazaar Mar, 1300 S. Miami Ave., Miami; (305) 239-1320; http://www.sbe.com/restaurants/locations/bazaar-mar/
Komodo
Nestled on Brickell Ave, I love how Komodo mixes Southeast Asian cuisine with a South Florida vibe. My favorite items on the menu? The Peking duck and lobster dynamite roll. A tip for you? Be sure to check out the restaurant’s signature floating “birds nests” seating outside to truly relax and unwind. Komodo, 801 Brickell Ave., Miami; (305) 534-2211; http://www.komodomiami.com/
Upland
What’s “up” over on Miami Beach these days? Upland…that’s what! Superstar Chef Stephen Starr does not disappoint with this popular NYC restaurant now open in the South of Fifth neighborhood. While the menu brings celebrated chef Justin Smillie’s signature California- inspired cuisine to life, the warm and thoughtfully created interiors are well worth the wait. Upland, 49 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; (305) 602-9998; http://www.uplandmiami.com/
Pao by Paul Qi
The hottest property right now, you ask? Faena Hotel Miami Beach. Dripping in sheer decadence, be sure to enjoy a cocktail at The Living Room and dine at Pao while you’re at it. Everyone raves about the Asian fare here (order the sea urchin for a real treat) — as well as the commanding Damien Hirst golden unicorn statue standing guard under the domed ceiling. So over-the-top glam! Pao, 3201 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; (786) 655-5600; http://www.faena.com/
These spots will definitely answer your question of “Where should I eat tonight?”
