Hot Summer Deliveries

While summertime is synonymous with slowing down one’s pace and relishing a more laidback lifestyle, here at THE COLLECTION we are busier than ever — and that’s a good thing for you auto aficionados. In fact, our spectacular showroom is experiencing a flash of hot deliveries in the shape of the Porsche Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS special editions, Porsche 911 Targa, McLaren P1™ and the Porsche 918 Spyder.

To break it down for you all, here are some highlights on each of these just-in novel rides:

Porsche Boxster GTS & Cayman GTS:

A unique level of performance is required to wear the GTS badge, thus this duo features more powerful engines and additional standard equipment.

The Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS mid-mounted 3.4 liter 6-cylinder boxer engine delivers an additional 15 hp compared to their “S” model counterparts. This means the Boxster GTS has 330 hp and the Cayman GTS has 340 hp. Torque has been increased by 7 lb.-ft. in each model and the top track speed for the Boxster GTS is a whopping 174 mph and 177 mph for the Cayman GTS. Whoa!

Porsche 911 Targa:

At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Porsche introduced two new models to the 911 range: the 911 Targa 4 and 911 Targa 4S. These models are the first to combine the classic Targa concept with cutting edge, innovative roof technology. Just like the legendary original 911 Targa of 1965, the new models feature the distinctive Targa roof bar, a movable front roof section, and a wraparound rear window. But unlike the classic 911 Targa, the roof segment can be opened and closed at the push of a button. The fully automatic roof system stows the Targa top behind the rear seats.

The 911 Targa 4 is powered by a horizontally opposed 3.4-liter 6-cylinder engine with 350 hp. Equipped with the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) and Sport Chrono package, the 911 Targa 4 accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and is capable of a top track speed of 174 mph (175 mph with the manual transmission). The 911 Targa 4S accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds when equipped with optional PDK and Sport Chrono package.  Beyond its quick pickup, the 911 Targa 4S can reach a top track speed of 183 mph when equipped with a manual transmission and 182 mph with PDK.

The 911 Targa 4 has an MSRP of $101,600 while the 911 Targa 4S starts at $116,200.

McLaren P1™:

A plug-in hybrid supercar exists! Yes, the McLaren P1™, a $1.15 million limited production plug-in hybrid supercar is the long-awaited successor to the F1™. The new car boasts 903 horsepower, can hit 62 mph in less than three seconds, can clock 186 mph in less than 17 seconds, and runs into an electronic wall at 217 mph.

McLaren P1

McLaren says aerodynamics is the single area where the McLaren P1™ has its biggest advantage over its rivals. It works actively, so the rear wing and underbody flaps adjust automatically to boost speed and driver confidence. In track-only “race” mode, the car dips 2 inches closer to the road and you get “ground effects” suction. In addition, the big rear wing periscopes back almost 12 inches. Drivers are essentially magnetized to the road!

To maintain exclusivity, just 375 of this latest hypercar have been produced. Talk about a limited edition!

Porsche 918 Spyder:

The 918 Spyder embodies the essence of the Porsche idea: it combines pedigree motor racing technology with excellent everyday utility, and maximum performance with minimum consumption. The task faced by the development team was to create the super sports car for the next decade with a highly efficient and powerful hybrid drive.

Developing the car from scratch, appropriately beginning with a sheet of white paper, allowed the team to come up with a no-compromise concept. The entire car was designed around the hybrid drive. In addition to the combustion engine, the 918 Spyder has two more power sources – electric motors that are truly ahead of their time. When the Porsche Universal Charger is connected to an electrical outlet, the vehicle can be charged in under two hours.

This being said, the 918 Spyder demonstrates the potential of the hybrid drive to a degree never seen before: the parallel improvement of both efficiency and performance without one being at the cost of the other. This is the idea that has made the Porsche 911 the most successful sports car in the world for 50 years. In short, the 918 Spyder (starting at $845,000) will act as the gene pool for the Porsche sports cars of the future.
