When you work extremely hard, well, it’s absolutely acceptable to play hard, in my book. While I am a workaholic of sorts, I do relish a trio of guilty pleasures — you know, something that you shouldn’t like, but like anyway. And while most people tout wine, chocolate, Starbucks or television viewing as their apologetic amusement, mine are:
1.) Designer shoes: Ferragamo, Tod’s, Gucci, Hermès, Louis Vuitton — you name it! I never met a pair of designer loafers I didn’t love (with a pang of guilt, naturally).
2.) Bocaditos from Accounting: The Accounting department at THE COLLECTION is home of the finest folk and yummy bocaditos — miniature Cuban ham and cheese sandwiches. Delicious, yet sadly not so forgiving to the waistline. Sigh.
3.) Sleeping late on Sundays: I typically wake up at 7 a.m. — but not on Sunday. Does this even warrant an explanation? I think not.
And since we’re on the topic of guilty pleasures, well, I think it’s high time we embrace them and indulge in these hedonistic delights more often. As in, they’re something you should enjoy every day, with wild abandon.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be unhealthy or calorie-laden, but it’s got to feel decadent. Here are a few tips:
1) Schedule a guilty pleasure break: Love Breaking Bad? After a hard day’s work, soak in a marathon. Because, why NOT?
2) Add some pizzazz to your daily routine: Hate working out but have an unhealthy obsession with Big Hair Bands? Sweat it out while rocking out to Poison.
3) Create guilty pleasure outings: Break out of the doldrums! When stuck in a rut, make a conscious effort to partake in activities you love. No Sunday plans? Pencil in a round of golf.
The point is to just go ahead…and indulge.
