Here’s a little story of when Siri met Ferrari. No, really. Think of Apple CarPlay as the best iPhone experience on four wheels. And luckily for Ferrari owners, CarPlay will be integrated in upcoming vehicles, including the revamped four-seater Ferrari FF grand tourer and the new Ferrari California T. The Prancing Horse is amongst one of the few select manufacturers that carry this cutting-edge tech feature.
CarPlay debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, where Apple’s Vice President of iPhone and iOS Product Marketing, Greg Joswiak, noted that it has been developed “from the ground up” in order to offer drivers an “incredible” iPhone-based driving experience with “minimized distraction.”
The FF grand tourer, which packs 651 horsepower, is the first Ferrari with 4-wheel-drive. This car definitely has something new to offer, for geeks and petrol-heads alike. It offers a tight integration of the world of Apple thanks to direct access to the infotainment system through the vocal command technology Siri Eyes Free. Furthermore passengers in the back of the FF can enjoy films, play the latest video games or navigate the Internet, thanks to two iPad Minis integrated in the backrest.
The details on Apple CarPlay? Sharing part of its name with the company’s AirPlay media-streaming protocol, this unique technology is a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone while in the car. CarPlay simply takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them right in your line of vision – on your car’s built-in display. This means, you can get directions, make calls, send and receive messages and listen to music, all in a manner that allows you to stay focused on the road. As well as improving on functionality, the potential safety benefits could spare the lives of thousands each year.
So how does apple car play work? CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specifically invented for life on the go. To use the voice control option, all you have to do is press and hold the voice control button conveniently located on the vehicle’s steering wheel. For touch control, tap the crystal-clear touchscreen display. CarPlay also works with the knobs, dials and buttons in the Ferrari, giving you numerous options for use.
One of the coolest features is that CarPlay makes driving directions more intuitive by working with Maps to anticipate destinations based on recent trips via contacts, emails or texts, and provides routing instructions, traffic conditions and ETA. This makes it so that you don’t have to use multiple programs or run complicated searches just to find out where you’re going.
Apple has also implemented safety features to ensure services do not draw your attention away from the road and push forwards its “hands-free” theme. For example, when sending or receiving a message from a contact, Siri only reads the message, never once showing the driver its contents.
