The relationship between cars and cinema has always intrigued me. I found it quite interesting how one correlates the DeLorean with Back to the Future, the Beetle with Herbie, the Mini Cooper with The Italian Job or Aston Martin with the distinguished James Bond. There’s no denying that when a specific car brand is spotlighted in a film, well, a passion is ignited. With that said, here is a curated list of famous cars in famous movies:
Aston Martin: Yes, it was the distinguished James Bond who put Aston Martin on the celebrity map. Touted as “the most beautiful car in the world,” the DB5 was chosen to be James Bond’s car of choice in the classic film Goldfinger. After appearing in a staggering 11 films later, it’s clear the two brands created cinema history.
Audi: Iron Man’s ride of choice? The Audi R8, of course! With a top speed of 124 mile per hour, Tony Stark can solve any dilemma — and fight evil! — in just the knick of time.
Ferrari: While Ferraris are omnipresent in a spate of films, the very first one that pops into my mind is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The scene where Cameron’s father’s Ferrari crashes through a glass wall and lands in a ravine is epic!
Jaguar: Groovy, baby! Austin Power’s, Shaguar, er, Jaguar was entirely covered by the British flag — and attractive women vying for the International Man of Mystery’s attention.
Maserati: Leave it to Charlie’s Angel’s to choose Maserati as their star vehicle. A Maserati Spyder Cambiocorsa — driven by actor Robert Patrick in the film — made its highly anticipated Hollywood debut in a Full Throttle car chase sequence.
Porsche: When I think of “Porsche movies,” Top Gun is always at the top of my list. Porsche is also synonymous with Risky Business and Gone in 60 Seconds — it’s safe to say cabriolets are much adored by Hollywood’s directors.
