From December 5th to the 8th, over 250 of the world’s leading galleries participated in the high-brow art fair, drawing over 50,000 visitors each year to the Magic City. This being said, it’s safe to say that since Art Basel’s inception in 2002, the internationally recognized show has put Miami on the arts map. Lest not forget to mention the sheer volume of luxury-brand events which draw the New York social set and Hollywood glitterati to our sandy shores as well.
So what does Art Basel mean for me, in particular? Copious art exhibits and A-list soirees, naturally.
The main event took place at The Miami Beach Convention Center, which boasts over 500,000 square feet of exhibition space hosting galleries from near and far. Several satellite art fairs were also must sees — my personal favorites being Design Miami, Art Miami, NADA Miami Beach and SCOPE Miami Beach. Spectacular art viewing aside, the eccentric people watching was also of note. You can quote me on that.
